English around the world
In this project you are going to learn more about English as a language. Hopefully you will find the answer to the question: - WHY on earth is English used by so many people?!?
Two billion people around the world speak English!!! From Husqvarna to Haiti, Berlin to Boston, Copenhagen to Kingston. And 0,00001% of them are named Foster. In the TV-series Family Foster Keith Foster and his 18-year-old daughter Julia travel around the globe to meet people who share their wonderful last name. Along the journey they try to find out why English has become the world’s leading language. Throughout the course of the series you will visit English speaking countries all around the world. You will meet a furious baboon, a real jungle doctor, a professor of linguistics, the new Spike Lee. And you will discover that mad authors, homeless Germans, French emperors and singing slaves all have played major parts in the progress of the English language. About the hosts Keith Foster is born and raised in the UK but now lives and works in Sweden. He works as a TV-host and a journalist and has been part of TV programs like “Living Room” and “Big Words”. Julia Foster is Keith’s 18-year-old daughter. “Family Foster” is her first part in a TV production. Julia is raised in Sweden but has always spoken English at home and feels more at home in the UK than in Sweden. |
